Can it cause problems to enter the country with a hunting rifle?

No. Usually it is not a problem to enter New Zealand with a hunting rifle. But some airports in other countries which you might pass through on you flight to New Zealand (like Singapore) require a special permit when travelling with a rifle. This permit includes only a small fee but sometimes take several days to be issued. Please inquire with the airline and yout travel agent.

Do I have to bring my own rifle when hunting in New Zealand?

No, if you prefer to travel without a rifle, your outfitters can provide you with a rifle.

Do I need a special licence to fish or to hunt game in New Zealand?

Yes, depending on where you hunt and what you hunt you may require a shooting licence (bird shooting) or a hunting licence to be able to access certain hunting areas. A fishing licence is always required when fishing in New Zealand’s freshwater.

How do I get my hunting or fishing licence?

Land of Dreams, or your outfitters/guide in New Zealand, will always make sure that you have the right licence when fishing or hunting in New Zealand.

Do I need to bring a valid fishing or hunting licence from my home country to purchase a New Zealand licence?

No. Anybody can purchase a New Zealand fishing or hunting licence and an overseas licence will not be required.
